Town of Trumbull Police officers responded to Macy’s at Trumbull Mall on a report of a shoplifter trying to steal $247 worth of clothing on Tuesday, July 30.

Further investigation revealed that Macy’s security team had observed a man wearing an orange shirt enter the fitting room area while carrying an armful of clothing and a bag, police say.

The man was later observed exiting the fitting room wearing a black tank top and a white hat while carrying the bag of clothing that was also concealed by his orange shirt, according to police.

The man allegedly tried to escape officers by running toward the exit as they attempted to place him under arrest.

The man, later identified as Robert Lee Banks, 48, of West Haven, continued to pull away from officers but was later apprehended and taken into custody, police say.

Banks was found to have seven outstanding warrants for his arrest, according to police. He was charged with interfering with police and sixth-degree larceny and is being held on a $5,000 bond pending his court appearance on Monday, August 12.
